Squeezing The Most From The Light Coming Into Your Home
Even the most luxurious and spaces houses, people often find there are areas that just do not get enough light. In fact, people with larger homes frequently have more of a problem due to having longer deeper rooms and also areas in the middle of the house that are some way from windows. There are some options available to increase the light in your home, including adding widows, buying white dining room furniture, knocking through walls and even using putting light tunnels in the chimney. However, the majority of these techniques require major building work, which lots of people do not want to undertake or don’t have the money for. Do not fear though, as here we take a look at some decidedly more simple approaches.
Mirrors. There is no easier way to transport light around your home than using mirrors. This is really down to the fact that almost all light that hits them is recycled and bounced back to other areas. If you pick the right spots on a wall you can easily direct incoming light from a widow, out of the door and around the house. Have another mirror outside the room on the wall opposite the door to pick up the light and move it on.Use this trick wherever you are lacking light to get better distribution and an all over feeling of space. It’s particularly useful when you have lots of bedroom furniture cluttering up a room, and not much light to start with.
Glass. If your goal is not to redirect light, but rather disperse it into lots of different directions then you can glassware. Having wine glasses on shelves and even crystal vases on bedside tables which refract light and send it out at all angles giving an all over glow.Be careful not to use too much glass however as you can end up diluting the light just a little too much.
Combine. For optimal light try combining the two techniques above. Use mirrors to direct light through glass objects and then smaller mirrors to pick up the refracted light and move it on. The best bit about using these tricks it that you won’t have to spend an extra penny on more electricity.
